With the birth of a new generation of hardware - the combo motherboard, a motherboard which houses a processor and RAM out of the box - the cost-cutting and energy-saving motivation of computer hardware manufacturers is on a steep ascent. Though they lack the computational power for heavy applications, they can be a highly economical replacement for desktops which are used only for internet browsing, document editing and some flash gaming. The leader in this field is the Intel Desktop Motherboard Combos. Available from 1.7 GHz single core to 1.8 GHz dual core atom processors with up to 4 GB RAM, the concept of an optimum "price-to-product" anomaly vacillates the decision of choice.

What is the configuration that you should be looking out for? A good option is provided below :

  • Intel D2500HN combo motherboard (Rs.4000)
  • Seagate 80GB SATA HDD (Rs. 2000)
  • Cubit mini-ATX cabinet w/ PSU (Rs. 1400)
  • AOC 1619 SW Monitor(optional) (Rs. 4000)
The D2500HN has a 1.8GHz dual-core processor with internal graphics has sufficient power to perform daily tasks. For anyone looking for a new desktop at maximum economy, build one yourself, now!

iPhone : A euphoric journey of anxiety.

The journey into the world of iOS began in June 2010. The first obstacle was in acquiring the iPhone. The cost was round Rs. 38,000 in India then. Since m brother was in the States during that time, I wanted to figure out an economical way to get an iPhone. Hence, the intense search began – the web, iPhone owners in India who managed to get it from foreign and the grey market. Finally, I found chicago.craigslist.org wherein one could buy/sell goods. My brother bought a pre-owned iPhone 3GS 16GB model which was 3 weeks old for $270!

But, Alas! When he handed it over India, I found it wouldn’t work with my SIM card here. Then again –  storming browse sessions began for a few days. I gathered all the information about jailbreaking and unlocking. Now, it is the time to experiment. I downloaded the ipsw firmware file of iOS 4.0.1, installed Hackintosh on my laptop and created a custom ipsw file. After that I needed to do a restore from iTunes. After many futile attempts, I managed to find a fix for the “hosts” file and installed my first jailbroken iOS! Luckily, the modem firmware version was not upgraded and I was able to unlock my iPhone via Ultrasn0w.

I upgraded to iOS 4.3.3 without any issues. I was always kept myself updated about the latest releases to check if there were “unthetered” jailbreaks available. Since iOS 4.3.5 didn’t have an unthetered jailbreak, I waited for iOS 5.0.1. In the awe of the new features I upgraded my iPhone.

Oops! My battery drained recklessly! After comparing the features of iOS 4.3.3 and iOS 5 I found that not many apps require iOS 5. I decided to downgrade to iOS 4.3.3. This was the biggest mistake committed. My baseband got upgraded to 05.16.02!

Frantically storming through the web, I found that I had to install iPad baseband(06.15.00). After reinstalling iOS 4.3.3 with iPad baseband, Ultrasn0w still didn’t work. And whoop I go again – I found a Commcenter patch, but this time for iOS 5.0.1.

And here I am; with an iPhone 3gs on iOS 5.0.1 with iPad baseband, jailbroken using sn0breeze, unlocked by ultrasn0w!
